Paid too much tax? Find out with an accountant

An accountant checks your full tax return. Overpaid? HMRC repays the difference. If not, we tell you straight.

From £99 + VAT. 37.5% + VAT of the tax relief we secure, minimum £99 + VAT. Nothing to pay upfront.

When Self Assessment is the route

Self Assessment is how HMRC collects tax that is not fully taken through payroll. You may need to file a return if you:

  • are self-employed or run a business
  • have rental or other untaxed income
  • receive income from abroad
  • have been asked to file by HMRC

Some people also file a return to include allowable expenses and reliefs on their own tax position. Whether it applies to you depends on your circumstances.

Am I due a tax rebate?

Only your full tax position can show that. A tax return adds up your income, the tax already paid, allowable expenses and reliefs. If you have paid more tax than the return shows, the difference can be repaid. Many returns show no repayment, and some show tax to pay.

Do I need to file a tax return?

It depends on your circumstances. People who are self-employed, have rental or other untaxed income, or have been asked by HMRC usually need to. If you are unsure, we can tell you.

What is Self Assessment?

Self Assessment is the system HMRC uses to collect tax that is not fully taken through payroll. You report your income and allowable expenses for the tax year in a tax return.
